Chris Taylor Wins Wisconsin Supreme Court Race

Appeals Court Judge Chris Taylor has won a seat on the state Supreme Court, cementing the highest court’s liberal majority through the end of the decade.

The Associated Press called the race less than 40 minutes after the polls closed at 8 p.m. With an estimated 43% of the vote counted just after 8:30 p.m., Taylor led fellow Appeals Court Judge Maria Lazar by 20 points, or about 145,000 votes.

With Taylor’s win, the court will move to a 5-2 liberal majority

Man struck by vehicle along highway in Grant County dies

Grant County authorities have announced a man has died as a result of a crash near Dickeyville last month. 79-year-old Alan Hensiak of Union Grove passed away at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, due to complications from injuries he sustained in the March 27th crash. Hensiak struck a concrete barrier while attempting to enter Highway 151 from Hill Climb Road. He exited his car and was struck by a northbound vehicle. He was flown to Iowa City for life-threatening injuries.

Nationwide eyedrops recall

More than 3 million eye drops are being recalled across the United States. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced K.C. Pharmaceuticals is voluntarily recalling millions of bottles of eye drops, citing a concern of “lack of assurance of sterility.” The recall includes eight types of over-the-counter eye drops sold by major U.S. retailers inlcuding Sterile Eye Drops, Eye Drops Advanced Relief, Dry Eye Relief Drops, Ultra Lubricating Eye Drops, Sterile Eye Drops Original Formula, Sterile Eye Drops Redness Lubricant, Sterile Eye Drops Soothing Tears, and Artificial Tears Sterile Lubricant Eye Drops. Various retailers sold the affected eye drops including Walgreens, CVS Pharmacy, and Dollar General. To determine whether eye drops are subject to this recall, consumers should check the product’s lot code listed on the FDA’s announcement.

$400,000 damages reported in Dubuque County fire

$400,000 in damages is reported following a structure fire in Dubuque County. Saturday evening the Dubuque County Sheriff’s Office along with Epworth Fire/EMS, and Key West Fire responded to structure fire on Whitetop Rd. The fire was extinguished and does not appear to be suspicious in nature.

Dinosaur-shaped chicken nuggets contaminated with lead

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has issued a public health alert for frozen, dinosaur-shaped, ready-to-eat chicken nuggets that may be contaminated with unsafe levels of lead. A recall was not requested because the products are no longer available for purchase. However, the department is concerned that some product may still be in consumers’ freezers. The chicken nuggets were produced on Feb. 10, 2026 and were sold under Walmart’s brand Great Value in 29-oz. plastic bags with “BEST IF USED BY” date “FEB 10 2027.” Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.

Appeals court upheld Hempstead teacher’s firing

The Iowa Court of Appeals on Thursday upheld the firing of a Dubuque Hempstead High School teacher who used a racial slur when talking to a student. The District court ruled there was insufficient evidence of just cause to fire teacher Roger Poling, and said a clip on social media impacted the reaction to the incident. The Appeals Court ruling says there is plenty of evidence that Poling made an inappropriate statement to a student and “the swirl of social media” was not the reason for the superintendent’s recommendation to fire him. It says Poling’s conduct impaired his ability to serve as a role model and to maintain effective interactions with students and his colleagues, and justified the decision to fire Poling.

Lan closure on Seippel Road in Dubuque

The southbound lane of Seippel Road will be closed between Chavenelle and Humke roads beginning at 7 a.m., Thursday, March 26, until 5 p.m. April 17. According to a city of Dubuque press release, the lane closure is due to concrete panel repairs. Southbound traffic will be detoured via Chavenelle Road, Northwest Arterial, Highway 20 and Old Highway Road. Northbound traffic on Seippel will not be affected.

UW Systems launch free AI skills program
