Visitors who explore the Rountree Branch Trail in Platteville may notice some natural art pieces along the path. Those pieces were designed and created by Platteville native Bill Mitchell. Among the pieces is one called 4,200 stones which features 42 strands of 100 stones drilled with a diamond tipped bit that hang on a wire over the creek.
Another piece is titled Farm Report, using old barn beams as the columns that support the structures of agriculture and its significance to the region.
Plus, Mitchell has designed a piece called Funnel Vision which narrows or broadens a visitor’s view depending on their perspective while looking through the artwork.
The last piece is a double helix structure called CRISPR in reference to gene editing technology.
