The federal government has contracted with a Dubuque firm to complete the second part of a major reconstruction project on the Mississippi River. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers St. Paul District awarded the $6.9 million contract to Dubuque Barge and Fleeting Service Co. This project will raise the elevation of the northernmost floodplain forest features above McGregor Lake, as well as improve backwater fish habitat by dredging areas north of the U.S. Highway 18 bridge.
