A Maquoketa man has been sentenced to five years in prison for stabbing his roommate in 2021. 65 year old David Anderson was given the sentence in Iowa District Court of Jackson County after pleading guilty to a charge of willful injury causing bodily injury. He initially was charged with willful injury causing serious injury but pleaded to the lesser-included charge. A report says that Anderson kicked in the bathroom door on December 3, 2021 and confronted his roommate, then-20 year old James Meisland. Anderson then stabbed Meisland, causing an injury that ultimately required doctors to remove Meisland’s spleen. Police said Anderson later admitted to stabbing Meisland first as Meisland stabbed Anderson back an unknown number of times.
