A man has been sentenced to seven years in federal prison for distributing drugs near a Dubuque college. 33 year old Malcolm Thornton of Chicago was sentenced in the U.S. District Court in Cedar Rapids after previously pleading guilty to one count of possession with the intent to distribute cocaine. U.S. District Court Judge C.J. Williams also ordered Thornton to serve six years of supervised release after the prison term. A release states that, in a plea agreement, Thornton admitted to being involved in selling cocaine and heroin out of a house near Loras College in Dubuque in 2017 and 2018. Thornton and others were traveling to Dubuque from Chicago on January 23, 2018, with more than 300 grams of cocaine when they were stopped by members of the Dubuque Drug Task Force.
