A Dubuque man on Tuesday was sentenced to 50 years in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree murder for his role in a fatal shooting in Dubuque last year. 31 year old Jermaine Bolds pleaded guilty Tuesday in Iowa District Court of Dubuque County to a charge of second-degree murder in the death of 31 year old Lonnie Burns of Dubuque. The law requires that Bolds serve at least 70% of the sentence, or 35 years, before he is eligible for parole. He also must pay $150,000 in restitution to Burns’ heirs. On February 7, 2023, police found Burns lying on the ground in the 700 block of Rhomberg Avenue, unresponsive, with several gunshot wounds. He later was pronounced dead.
