The new owner of the Dodger Bowl Lanes and Catering in Dodgeville is following the lead of the previous owner by giving back to the community. Ashley Price of Montfort worked at the Dodger Bowl for just over 6 years before purchasing the business last December. She has an upcoming fundraiser on Saturday featuring Bingo and a Drago Queen, more commonly known as Drag Queen Bingo. Price says, ” [The] Drag Queen will be hosting the bingo like calling out the number and kind of putting on a show. About halfway through after 5 rounds of it they’re going to be doing a little performance with some singing and dancing. The Drag Queen already warned me that they will be doing some back flip and cartwheels and everything and it sounds like a good time. A Drag Queen is just somebody that puts on a performance. It doesn’t mean that they’re gay, it doesn’t mean that they’re straight, it doesn’t mean anything really. It just means they like to go out and dress up as a woman and have fun.” When asked about the community’s response to the Drag Queen bingo fundraiser Price said, “It’s been a mixed bag of reactions for every negative comment, I have just as many positive comment and reviews. I think for the most part, there is going to be a lot of people that show up that are interested in this event.”
Price added the proceeds from the 50/50 drawing during the fundraiser will go to the Iowa County Suicide Prevention Coalition. Price indicated the residents of the area have been supportive of previous fundraisers such as an auction for The Angel Fund through Babies Gone too Soon, which raised over $11,000 or raising money for an area high school cheer team. The doors open at 3 PM on Saturday with the event starting at 5 PM.
