A Dairy Processor earlier this month in Western Wisconsin terminated its contract with 23 farms. The farms are all organic and mostly Amish located in the eastern part of the state. Westby Co-op Creamery officials said recent negotiations with a customer who had purchased all the milk from the East side of the state failed to reach an agreement. The co-op had no other market for the fluid milk provided by the 23 farms and officials said it is never an easy decision to reduce patrons. Co-op Officials also stated they understood that all the dairies in question have found a processor to take the milk. However it appears 12 of the farms are still without someone to buy their milk and one farmer has already sold his cows due to the change. The dairy farmer in question said he got a letter from Westby Co-op Creamery on March 5th and the milk hauler left his farm for the final time on March 7th.
The Westby Cooperative Creamery has scheduled its Annual Meeting next week.
