Friends and family of a woman killed in Dubuque in 2021 testified this morning to the impact of the loss on their lives in the first day of testimony of the trial against the man accused of killing her. 24-year-old Romell Enoch, is charged in Iowa District Court of Dubuque County with first-degree murder in relation to the death of 20-year old Kylie Duster. The trial began Tuesday with an all-day jury selection process, and testimony began this morning. Police found Duster dead in her Dubuque home on July 28, 2021, after she had not been seen for several days. She was found in her bedroom closet with a piece of white fabric in her mouth and injuries to her face and neck, court documents state. Prosecutors contend Enoch killed her and hid her body after an argument the two had on July 25, 2021. Enoch’s attorney Steven Drahozal said in his opening statement that the defense has no intention of arguing that Enoch did not kill Duster, but rather that it was an unplanned and unfortunate “reaction.”
