A man who illegally returned to the U.S. after being deported six times and was living in southwest Wisconsin has been sentenced to over two months in federal prison. 39-year-olf Roberto Medina-Soto, a citizen of Mexico, who was living in Shullsburg area received the sentence Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Cedar Rapids after previously pleading guilty to one count illegal reentry into the U.S. after having been deported. U.S. District Court Chief Judge C.J. Williams sentenced Medina-Soto to 75 days in prison, followed by one year of supervised release. A press release states Media-Soto previously was deported in March 2020., April 2020, and four times in October 2020. Immigration officials learned he had returned to the U.S. in April when Medina-Soto was arrested on an operating while intoxicated charge and was in the Dubuque County Jail. He was convicted of operating while intoxicated in June and sentenced to 50 days in jail.
