A Dubuque manufacturing company plans a $7.1 million expansion and seeks more than $1.1 million in government support from local, regional and state sources to get it done. Universal Tank & Fabrication plans to add a new 28,000-square-foot building that would allow the company to separate blasting, painting and assembly from its fabrication area. Company President Dan Davis said the expansion would allow for the creation of 15 new jobs. On Monday, Dubuque City Council members will consider a proposed resolution supporting a Universal Tank application to the state, which comes with a local commitment of 10 years of tax-increment financing property tax rebates worth about $700,000. Universal Tank hopes to get approved for a $155,000 investment tax credit and a $120,000 sales tax rebate from the Iowa Economic Development Authority. The company also has asked Northeast Iowa Community College for $150,000 in assistance with job training.
