The city of Dubuque made slow but steady progress in the primary 2024 construction season to add new multifamily housing to the city’s depleted stock. Since March, 28 new units have come online, construction has started on 194 more units and 201 units have had site plans approved by the city. Additionally, 97 have been added to the city’s review process since March. Dubuque Mayor Brad Cavanagh said the Federal Reserve lowering interest rates would help improve the housing market. He said inflated costs of building supplies and labor have made it difficult for supply to keep up with demand.
