Higher voter turnout in 2024 than 2020

As officials canvass results of the election, data shows that more voters cast ballots across the tri-state area than did four years ago, though turnout was down in some individual counties. In eastern Iowa and northwest Illinois, area voters came out in bigger numbers this year than in 2016. Some 53,046 voters cast ballots in Dubuque County, up 2,825 from 2016. In Jackson County, 10,849 people voted, up 345. In Jo Daviess County, 12,474 people voted, up 978. Still, fewer ballots were cast than in 2020 in three area Iowa counties — 983 fewer in Dubuque County, 346 fewer in Jackson County and 145 fewer in Clayton County. In Jo Daviess County, 135 fewer people cast ballots than in 2020. In Grant County, 27,298 people cast ballots for president, 1,690 more than in 2020. In Lafayette County, 8,822 ballots were cast for president, an increase of 267.
