High school students can participate in an upcoming free Occupational Safety and Health Administration 10-hour safety training session in Dubuque. Alliance for Construction Excellence, a committee of Dubuque Area Labor-Management Council, will host the training from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Dec. 18 and 19 at Portzen Construction. The free two-day training session for high school juniors and seniors is designed for students who currently work in construction or plan to enter a construction trade after graduation. Certified trainers will teach the course. Participants must attend both days and will receive an OSHA 10-Hour Safety card upon completion. The release states that ACE plans to offer the course annually. According to a press release, the training is being held in memory of 21-year-old Jacob Young of Dubuque, who was killed March 1 in a trench collapse during construction of a new apartment complex.
