Platteville residents will get to weigh in on the funding of a proposed new pool next spring. The Common Council this week voted, 6-0, to approve the addition of an advisory referendum to the April 1 ballot asking whether the city should borrow up to $6.9 million to construct a replacement aquatic center. The referendum is nonbinding and seeks to gauge public support for the city to potentially incur debt and increase its property tax levy to fund the pool’s construction. City code requires such advisory referendums for projects exceeding $1 million in cost, though the council had the authority to waive this requirement. However, city officials said they thought it was important to gauge public opinion.
