A Dubuque long term care facility recently was fined $3,500 after state regulators said staff mixed up two residents’ medication. Eagle Pointe Place received the fine late last year from the Iowa Department of Inspections, Appeals and Licensing citing the improper administration of medicine, which occurred Oct. 8. According to state citation documents, an inspector found that a staff member switched two residents’ morning medications, resulting in one being hospitalized after taking the wrong medication. That resident was treated and released, but the inspector noted if she had not been taken to the emergency room, “she may not have made it.”
