Many of Dubuque’s popular amenities started as goals of Envision 2010, a community visioning process facilitated by Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque and Dubuque Area Chamber of Commerce in 2005. Twenty years later, leaders of the two organizations now want community members to bring new ideas to the table and Envision 2030. The community foundation and the chamber this month are launching a new community-driven initiative to brainstorm ideas for 10 major projects to improve Dubuque. For the next two months, leaders of the effort are soliciting Dubuque residents’ proposals for projects to shape the community’s future. Over 2,300 ideas were submitted for Envision 2010. With the help of social media, organizers of this year’s effort are aiming even higher. Dubuque residents are welcome to submit ideas until May 31, community members will have the chance to vote on their favorite ideas at town hall meetings and narrow the list to 30. From July through September, a selection committee will meet to narrow the ideas to 10 priorities. Envision 2030 leaders will accept applications to be on the selection committee from Wednesday, March 26, to May 30 at www.envision2030.org. Members of the steering committee are not allowed to be part of the selection committee.
