The Dubuque landfill board has decided to move ahead with plans for a customer convenience center while forgoing a $4 million federal grant offered by then-President Joe Biden and frozen by President Donald Trump. By a unanimous vote on Friday, the Dubuque Metropolitan Area Solid Waste Agency authorized landfill administrator Ken Miller to approve a $10.1 million contract with local Tricon Construction Group to build the customer service center, with construction to start this season. The bid from Tricon was $1.5 million under the engineer’s estimate.
