A Grant County man has been sentenced to more than 10 years in federal prison for a methamphetamine- related conviction. 23-year-old Hunter Q. Newberry of Boscobel, recently received the sentence in U.S. District Court in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, after previously pleading guilty to one count of possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute. According to a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Iowa, Newberry was arrested Jan. 27, 2024, in the 2000 block of Holliday Drive in Dubuque after a traffic stop when authorities found a bag containing nearly 2 pounds of methamphetamine in Newberry’s vehicle. Newberry later admitted to authorities that he had acquired the methamphetamine in Madison, Wis., and brought it to the Dubuque area to distribute. Newberry admitted that between December 2023 and January 2024, he acquired at least 10 pounds of methamphetamine and distributed it in the Dubuque area, the release states. Newberry was sentenced to 140 months’ imprisonment, followed by five yea rs of supervised release.
