Additional charges have been filed against a man from Bloomington related to his alleged role in a fatal Grant County crash last week. 57 year old Benjamin Steiger is charged in Grant Court Circuit Court with three counts of operating while intoxicated causing injury, three counts of operating while under the influence of a controlled substance causing injury and one count each of homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle, homicide by use of a vehicle — controlled substance, possession of THC and possession of drug paraphernalia. Steiger initially was arrested on charges of homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle, causing injury while operating under the influence and possession of drug paraphernalia. The Grant County Sheriff’s Department previously reported that 73 year old Cheryl Mader of Prairie du Chien, died at the scene of the crash near Patch Grove on June 25th. Mader’s husband, 73 year old Dale Klemme and their two granddaughters, ages 7 and 5, were injured and taken by ambulance to a hospital for treatment of critical injuries.
