A Dubuque County man has been sentenced to two to five years of probation for repeatedly selling marijuana to a confidential informant. 62 year old John Rankins of Dyersville, received the sentence from Iowa District Court Judge Thomas Bitter in Iowa District Court of Dubuque County after pleading guilty to three counts of a controlled substance violation. Reports say that Rankins sold marijuana to a confidential informant four times from December 2022 to March of this year. The informant purchased the drugs at the direction of the Dubuque Drug Task Force. One sale took place within 1,000 feet of Beckman Catholic High School, a protected location. Several containers of marijuana were found in varying amounts totaling more than a half pound. Drug paraphernalia also was located. When officers approached Rankins to execute the search warrant, he was holding a large black bag containing 0.85 pounds of marijuana.
