A panel of Dubuque County jurors has convicted a man of first-degree murder in a fatal downtown shooting. 32-year-old Keywani D. Evans of Freeport, Ill., was charged in Iowa District Court of Dubuque County with first-degree murder and first-degree robbery in relation to the fatal 2022 shooting of 20-year-old Taiwon Jackson Jr., of Dubuque. The jury found Evans guilty on both counts. The verdict came after a weeklong trial filled with testimony from over two dozen witnesses. A sentencing date has not yet been set, although a first-degree murder conviction comes with a mandatory life prison sentence in Iowa.
