The city of Dubuque saw an increase in the number of shots-fired calls recorded in the first six months of the year, although local leaders stress that the overall risk to public safety remains low. Nine cases of shots fired with criminal intent were reported since January 1st, already eclipsing the seven instances recorded in all of 2023. The figure is higher than the two incidents recorded in the first half of 2023 and the six recorded in the first half of 2022, though it falls just shy of the 10 shots-fired incidents Dubuque police recorded in the first six months of 2021.
