Dubuque Community School District school bus drivers and attendants are picketing in search of better wages, benefits and working conditions after contract negotiations with the district stalled earlier this month. A group of about 15 school bus drivers and attendants stood in front of Dubuque Senior High School on Wednesday, holding signs with phrases like “Value our work” and “Safe, reliable transportation for your future.” The picket, which began Monday and is taking place at various district buildings, is not a strike, as public employees in Iowa cannot strike under state code. Reports say bus drivers and attendants are continuing to work their shifts, and bus routes for the district’s Summer Academy are continuing as scheduled. The union represents the district’s bus drivers and attendants, although not all drivers are union members.
