The Dubuque County Opioid Response Network is gathering public input on the potential placement of two vending machines stocked with naloxone, a commonly used medicine that rapidly reverses an opioid overdose. Two vending machines would be placed outside and be available 24 hours a day. No final decision has been made on the locations yet. The network is advising the Board of Health and Dubuque County Board of Supervisors in the distribution of the $500,000 from settlements of lawsuits against opioid manufacturers, a fund that is expected to continue growing in the coming years. If approved, the machines and naloxone would cost about $25,000 and be among the first projects funded by the settlement dollars.
