A Wisconsin man has been sentenced to 90 days in jail for leading officers on a high-speed chase. 46-year-old Corey L. Rinehart of Colby, Wis., recently received the sentence in Iowa District Court of Dubuque County after pleading guilty to charges of eluding and assault on a peace officer. The charges stem from an Oct. 2 incident in which, court documents state, Dubuque police attempted to locate Rinehart’s vehicle in the area of the Q Casino + Resort parking lot at the request of authorities in Wood County, Wis., where he was accused of violating his parole. Officers located Rinehart in his vehicle, but when they approached the vehicle, Rinehart “accelerated at a high rate of speed heading toward the exit of the parking lot.” Rinehart drove at speeds in excess of 55 mph in a 25-mph zone on Greyhound Park Road. Officers deployed tire deflation devices, leading him to crash into a wooded area. Officers located Rinehart standing in a creek next to his vehicle. Rinehart was struggling to get out of mud, so an officer pulled Rinehart out while both held a wooden stick. Once he was on firm ground, Rinehart grabbed the stick and threatened an officer with it before being taken into custody.
