Officials said one person was transported to a hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation following a fire Tuesday afternoon near East Dubuque. East Dubuque and Menominee-Dunleith fire departments responded at around noon to a brush fire along Highway 20 and Barge Terminal Road. Upon arrival, firefighters located the fire along the railroad tracks between T&T Iron & Metals and RT&T Enterprises. A press release states that an employee from T&T Iron & Metals suffered smoke inhalation and was medically evaluated at the scene before being transported by ambulance to UnityPoint Health-Finley Hospital in Dubuque. Firefighters had knocked down the fire by about 12:45 p.m. An investigation determined that the fire was caused by embers from nearby pallets and other debris that had been burning earlier in the morning. The blaze was determined to be accidental.
