When the school year started, Mitchell Couch of Lemoore, California, noticed that his kids were taking over the dining room table to do their schoolwork each evening. So, he decided to build them each a desk.
The desks were such a hit with his kids that Mitchell wondered if other kids might also need such a workspace. Mitchell — who happens to be a former carpenter — put the word out that he could create desks for kids in need. And, families definitely responded.
Since school started, Mitchell has put together dozens of desks for low-income students. And, wanting to help other families, he also made a YouTube video teaching others on how to make a similar desk for about $20.
According to Mitchell, “people are begging for desks,” so he hopes to build 50 more — and help as many students as he can get through this unusual school year. (WJAX-TV)
